Grant High School Alumni Association

Welcome Alumni

Picture

Welcome to the official alumni website for Ulysses S. Grant High School -- Portland's premier public senior high school. The Grant High School Alumni Association (GHSAA) is an alumni-led social and service organization bridging the past and future for the benefit of Grant High School and its thousands of graduates.

Ulysses S. Grant...a General of the Armies of the United States?!?

Picture
Here's an interesting article about our high school's namesake!
The article begins...  "Tucked away in an amendment to the FY2023 U.S. defense authorization bill is a rare instance of congressional bipartisanship and a tribute to U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant.

If approved, the measure would posthumously promote Grant to the rank of General of the Armies of the U.S., making him only the third person – along with John J. Pershing and George Washington – to be awarded the nation’s highest military honor.

...[ I ] believe that the promotion would be much more than a symbolic nod to a great military general. Rather, it would highlight the overlooked legacy of a man who fought to end the last vestiges of slavery."

Summer Generally Speaking newsletter

The summer issue of Generally Speaking was published in August. You can read it here. And if you're looking for older issues, take a look at our Alumni Newsletters page. The winter issue will come out in January.

Please note that with this issue we are only emailing a copy of the newsletter to alumni unless you have paid your annual dues and we have a current street address. We are taking this step to
insure your dues and donations are used efficiently and to provide the best benefit to our members. The cost of producing, addressing and mailing a printed newsletter has grown to a level we cannot sustain as printing, preparing, and mailing over 1000 copies twice a year is physically and financially ineffective. The full-color summer and winter newsletters will continue to be emailed to all 5000+ of you for whom we have an email address; a black-and-white printed copy will be sent to our alumni who have paid dues.

To receive an emailed copy: make sure we have your correct email address; you can send yours to us at grantalumni@aol.com.
To receive a printed copy: pay your dues! Annual Individual Dues are $20/year, Annual Couple Dues are $30/year (when both are Grant alums), and a Lifetime Membership is  $250.
New memberships and renewals cover the calendar year beginning January 1 and support GHSAA activities, newsletter, scholarship, and picnic expenses. You can pay your dues by clicking here.

Also, please consider serving a larger role in your US Grant Alumni Association. We have grown the scholarship fund, donated to the music department, have a centennial celebration to plan, and are a significant part of the Grant High School community. As with all groups of this kind, leadership must be handed off to new members over time, and our board is selected from dues paying members. If you are interested in serving, our Vice President chair is open and we can add seats on the board. Please let us know if you are interested; you can contact me at rstayton@comcast.net.

Fred Meyer continues to offer $2 million to nonprofits in AK, ID, OR and WA and the GHSAA would love to have some of those dollars!

All you have to do is register your personal Fred Meyer's reward card number to the Alumni Association's number (GF119) at by clicking here. Connecting our number in no way affects the personal rewards you are already receiving when you shop at Fred Meyer.  You will continue to earn rewards...and so will we!
